Collection and treatment of the contaminated soil
Soil polluted with oil products and chemicals is treated through biological means. This method is innovative in Latvia - it is based on the use of biodegradable micro-organisms that contain oil products and their feed additives. Micro-organisms feed on the petroleum products, as a result they decompose thus bacterial protein and oil oxidation products remain in the soil, producing humus.
EKO OSTA Ltd., in cooperation with the biologists of the Faculty of Microbiology of the University of Latvia, has developed micro-organism clones, which, together with additives for biological preparations, accelerates the processing time of the soil. With the use of biological treatment means it is possible to recycle up to 3500-3800 tons of polluted soil in two months. The treated soil is used for road construction sloping, for improvement of construction sites, as a layer of humus and for the production of compost.
